The Minister for Health has appointed a committee to investigate the circumstances surrounding the suspension of two consultant surgeons from Cavan General Hospital.

The inquiry will be chaired by Mr Gerry Danaher SC. He will be assisted by two health board representatives, Ms Mary Hynes and Mr John Bulfin, and two nominees of the Irish Hospital Consultants' Association, Mr Patrick Broe and Mr David Waldron.

The surgeons, Mr William Joyce and Mr Pawan Rajpal, were suspended without pay by the health board last August, mainly due to alleged interpersonal difficulties.
