The injured skipper of an Irish fishing boat was brought ashore by a Naval Service vessel last Tuesday evening. A spokesman for the Irish Marine Emergency Service said that the man's arms were lacerated after being caught in a winch.

Both the Valentia Lifeboat and the LE Ciara headed for the boat, which was located about 16 miles south of the Skelligs. The naval vessel arrived first and, after putting a medic on board, the skipper was transferred to the Ciara and brought to Castletownbere. From there he was transferred to hospital in Cork.
