Gardaí have issued an appeal to the public for information following an explosion on Dublin’s north side in the early hours of yesterday morning. No one was injured in the incident and gardaí are investigating the motive behind the explosion.
The improvised explosive device was detonated under a 4x4 vehicle parked on Holy Cross Avenue, off Clonliffe Road, at about 1.45am. Local residents reported a loud bang at that time. The vehicle’s undercarriage was damaged in the blast.
An Army bomb disposal team attended the scene at 2.40am and removed the remains of the device for analysis. The road was sealed off for several hours while a technical examination was carried out.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses or anyone who was on Clonliffe Road, Holy Cross Avenue, Jones’s Road and surrounding areas and noticed unusual or suspicious behaviour between 10pm and 2am to contact them at Mountjoy Garda station.
