Banda Aceh - Indonesia's military authorities said yesterday they had killed 20 rebels in a raid in Aceh province on the eve of a resumption of peace talks between the government and separatists in Geneva.

The raid was carried out by about 50 troops on a house in Tinang Gaja sub-district in central Aceh, a military spokesman, Lt Col Firdaus, claimed. He said that one government trooper was seriously injured in the threehour gun battle that ensued when the rebels of the Free Aceh Movement (GAM) tried to flee the house.
