Garda inquiry into sexual assault of teenage girl in Co Louth

Gardaí are investigating a serious sexual assault on a teenage girl in Co Louth at the weekend. The young woman was attacked in the vicinity of St Joseph’s Hospital, in Ardee, early Saturday morning.

Gardaí have conducted a technical examination of the scene and have appealed for anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity in the area, at about 12.30am on Saturday, to contact them either at the local Garda station at (041) 685 3222, or on the Garda confidential line 1800 666 111.

Dead man's family to set up trust fundThe family of a young man who died a year ago after he suffered a debilitating sports injury that left him paralysed hopes to set up a trust fund in his name for people with spinal injuries.

Stuart Mangan (26) died on August 7th, 2009, at St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington in London after he developed pneumonia. From Co Cork, he was paralysed as a result of an injury he sustained while playing rugby in London.

Female hill runner rescued

A 23-year-old hill runner was rescued from one of the Wicklow Mountains on Saturday when she got into difficulty after a competition.  Mountain rescue teams were called out when the woman became temporarily incapacitated on her descent from Douche Mountain. She suffers from a pre-existing condition and recovered quickly. One of her friends, a nurse, monitored her throughout. Then at 2am, rescue teams were alerted again when a man was reported missing to gardaí. The man was found at 3.45am.
