Sister appeals 15-year sentence

One of the Dublin sisters jailed for killing and dismembering their mother's boyfriend has lodged an appeal with the Court of Criminal Appeal against her 15-year sentence. The appeal will not be heard until next year.

Mother of four Linda Mulhall was jailed by the Central Criminal Court last Monday for the manslaughter of Farah Swaleh Noor.

IRA accused tells court about clocks

A father of 10 accused of IRA membership told gardaí he had so many unused alarm clocks in his house because his children thought the "ticking" was too loud, the Special Criminal Court heard yesterday .

Det Sgt Ruairí Corcoran was giving evidence in the trial of Art Sherwin (55), Ballinagappa Road, Clane, Co Kildare, who denies membership of the IRA on March 14th, 2005.The trial continues today.

Environmentalists refused review

A Co Tipperary environmental group has been refused leave by the High Court to bring a challenge aimed at quashing the Environmental Protection Agency's decision to grant a licence for a waste-disposal landfill near Carrick-on-Suir.

Mr Justice Roderick Murphy yesterday ruled that Elizabeth Murray, secretary of the Hardbog Grangemockler environmental group, had failed to establish the necessary grounds for a judicial review.

Addict asks court for remand

A 17-year-old father of one was yesterday remanded in custody at his own request in a bid to beat his drug addiction.

The teenager pleaded guilty at the Dublin Children's Court to obstructing a peace officer during an arrest and to driving without a licence and insurance.

Teenage arsonists given probation

Two teenagers who burned a house down causing damage worth €100,000 after a drinking binge, have been released on probation for one year at the Dublin Children's Court.

The 17-year-old youths pleaded guilty to arson at Rochestown Avenue, Dún Laoghaire, on January 13th.
