Plans for a European-wide immigration policy are to dominate a meeting in the Spanish Canary Islands today of police chiefs from the European Union.
During the two-day meeting, a task force will debate conclusions reached at February's meeting of EU interior and justice ministers at Santiago de Compostella in northwestern Spain.
The task force, created in October 1999, will also discuss Europol issues, including organised crime and the battle against terrorism.
A meeting between the police chiefs and their counterparts from 13 other countries seeking entry into the EU is scheduled for tomorrow.
