Identity of €15m lottery winner a mystery

THE IDENTITY of the person who won €15 million on the Euromillions lottery remained a mystery last night.

THE IDENTITY of the person who won €15 million on the Euromillions lottery remained a mystery last night.

Nobody has come forward to claim the prize, the second time that the Euromillions lottery jackpot has been won in Ireland.

The winning ticket was sold in Abbey Stores, Carrickbeg, Carrick-on-Suir, Co Tipperary, on Friday, just hours before the draw took place in Paris.

Shop owner Gerry Fahey, who stands to win €25,000 when the winner claims his prize, said the village is rife with rumours about who has scooped the big prize, but it may not be a local. "You can't hide €15 million around here. There's speculation based on rumour, but that's all there is.

''Everyone and anyone is being mentioned and people are getting phone calls once their name is mentioned."

Mr Fahey said he could identify the winner if the lottery organisers could tell him the exact time the ticket was sold as he has CCTV, but they said that would be breaking the confidentiality agreement with any winner.

This is the second Irish person to win the Euromillions lottery. In July 2005, Dolores McNamara won €115 million, which remains the single biggest win in Euromillions history.

A lottery spokeswoman said the winner of last week's Euromillions jackpot would not have been able to claim their prize until this morning as the National Lottery offices were shut over the weekend.
