Liz Hurley yesterday said she hoped she would not have to pursue Mr Steve Bing, the man she has named as father of the baby she is expecting, for child support.

The actress, in her first interview since splitting with Mr Bing and announcing she is pregnant, said she believed they were both "too nice" to get involved in a court battle. And she ruled out getting back together with former boyfriend Hugh Grant. Ms Hurley (36) announced last month that she was expecting a baby, due in April, and named Mr Bing (35), a millionaire Hollywood producer, as the father. But he later cast doubt on being the father, claiming the two were not in an "exclusive relationship" and hinted that he would want proof the child was his.

Yesterday Ms Hurley said she did not want to get into a public slanging match with her former lover.

She told NBC's Today show: "Unfortunately it all sort of got really silly.

"In a way, it hasn't been a very easy few months, but one's sanity and reason is sort of saved by the fact that something very nice is going to ultimately happen so even though there has been some sort of unpleasantness - a lot of it magnified I have to say."
