Nicosia - A Turkish Cypriot police officer was seriously wounded yesterday when he was shot by Greek Cypriot hunters who entered the Turkish sector in the north of the island, Turkish Cypriot police said.

The shooting occurred in a mountainous region near Lefka (Lefke in Turkish), some 70 km east of Nicosia, the police said. The hunters fled back into Greek Cypriot territory after the incident and no arrests were made in the Turkish sector.
