Hundreds of people turned out in Co Cork today for the funeral of Margaret "Meg" Walsh.

The battered body of Ms Walsh (35), an office worker, was found floating in the River Suir, near Waterford's quays, on Sunday.

It brought an end to a two-week search by gardaí and locals.

Gardaí yesterday said they believe the mother-of-one, originally from Fermoy, Co Cork, knew her killer.

The funeral mass took place in the Church of Saint Nicholas in Kilavullen, and the body was brought there from the funeral home in Fermoy.

Detectives, who opened a murder hunt earlier this week, yesterday revealed they believe Ms Walsh may have died in a tragic accident.

Officers, who appealed for her killer to come forward, said they know who dumped her car at a pub more than a mile from her home.

A specialist dog team, which helped in the Soham murders investigation in the United Kingdom, searched Ms Walsh's house in the Ballinakill Downs area of Waterford.

It is hoped the police dogs will help trace Ms Walsh's final movements and find material that could provide clues as to how and where she died.

It is understood that Ms Walsh had previously told friends she felt in danger and had made an assault complaint to gardaí.
