A hostel worker has been remanded in custody to next January 21st by the Central Criminal Court after he pleaded guilty to raping a French tourist by forced oral sex in Ennis, Co Clare, last April. John Haw (42), with an address c/o the Abbey Youth Hostel, Ennis, admitted committing the offence against the 20 year old woman hostel resident.

Mr Justice Morris remanded Haw in continuing custody and agreed with an application by Mr Gregory Murphy SC, defending, for both a probation and a psychiatric report on his client.

Mr Sean Ryan SC, prosecuting, said a victim impact report would be prepared on the woman. Mr Ryan said lie would not like to require the young woman to be seen by a psychiatrist if she did not wish to, but agreed arrangements would be made for a suitable professional to assess her.
