The maternity unit at the South Tyrone Hospital in Dungannon is to close, the local health board announced yesterday. The decision follows advice from anaesthetists that modern medical standards can no longer be guaranteed in maternity care at the hospital. The health authorities recommended that the unit should close within the next few weeks. Dungannon District Council has taken legal advice with a view to seeking a judicial review of the decision.
