Raymond van Barneveld held off the brave challenge of Wales' Ritchie Davies to win his third Embassy World Championship crown at Frimley Green's Lakeside Country Club tonight.

The Dutchman, who won the title in 1998 and 1999, raced into a four-set lead before Davies fought back to reduce the deficit to 4-3.

However, Van Barneveld showed his class to win the next two sets for a 6-3 success.

The 35-year-old has looked in top form all week and went into the final with a three-dart average of over 98.

But credit must also go to Davies, a computer engineer from Aberdare, who knocked out former champions John Walton and Tony David on his way to the final.
