A family was left stranded in Dublin Airport while strangers jetted off to their sun holiday destination in their pre-paid charter seats, a court was told yesterday. Mr Gene McNamara, his wife Maeve and their two children were told two of their seats had been allotted to a couple who had not even booked.

Mr Peter O'Leary, for the family, of Sandycove, Co Dublin, said they paid Panorama Holiday Group for the seats but had to wait two days to be flown out, losing two days of their week-long holiday.

Mr Declan Buckley, for Panorama Holiday Group, of Park West Business Park, Nangor Road, Dublin, said his clients had offered £2,700 damages but stressed Aer Lingus had indemnified the holiday company for the check-in error which caused the problem.
