Tottenham manager Glenn Hoddle will unveil his latest capture today when Frederic Kanoute joins the White Hart Lane strikeforce.

Hoddle has now completed his transformation of the front line with Kanoute, Bobby Zamora and Helder Postiga joining Robbie Keane at Spurs.

Hoddle has off-loaded Teddy Sheringham, Les Ferdinand and Steffen Iversen and can now turn his attentions to strengthening other areas of his team as the Premiership season draws ever closer.

Defence is one area where Hoddle could do with some good news.

Dean Richards, Spurs' stg£8.1million centre-back, started training yesterday after a long spell under treatment for an Achilles problem.

But his defensive partner Ledley King is still out with ankle trouble and unlikely to face Sporting Lisbon in the club's final pre-season test on Sunday.

But it is in midfield where Hoddle could next bolster his squad.

PSV Eindhoven's £8million-rated Dutch midfielder Mark van Bommel has already indicated he finds a move to north London as attractive.

Van Bommel inspired the Dutch side's comfortable 2-0 victory over Spurs in a pre-season friendly on Sunday at White Hart Lane where he smashed a spectacular goal for Holland against England two years ago.

He said: "White Hart Lane is one of my favourite grounds and Spurs are a great club with great tradition.

"It is my dream to come into the Premiership and I could even play for Spurs if the move was right for me."

The £3.5million signing of Kanoute includes provision for £1million-rated winger Matthew Etherington to join West Ham as part of the deal.

But before the deal was completed yesterday Hoddle insisted Kanoute went through rigorous medical tests.

The French striker faced tests spread over several days to ensure he has suffered no lasting effects from the groin injury which kept him out of action for four months last season.

Kanoute was restricted to just 12 starts for West Ham and scored only five goals in their failed bid to escape relegation last season. But his personal wage demands have proved well within Spurs' budget.

"Freddie will balance off nicely with the other strikers we have brought to the club," enthused Hoddle.

"But he won't be my last signing. We have lost too many defenders with injuries and we are stretched for midfielders too.

"It is worrying with the season just a couple of weeks away but we have just got to get on with it and I am still looking around."
