Snooker:John Higgins remains on course to defend his Grand Prix title on home soil in Glasgow following his 5-1 win over Northern Ireland's Mark Allen in today's quarter-finals.

Neil Robertson also booked his place in the last four after defeating Joe Perry by the same margin at the Kelvin Hall venue.

Higgins carried the same sort of form that defeated Ronnie O’Sullivan into today’s match as he opened with a 66 break. Further breaks of 46 and 44 secured the second before an error from Allen in the third was punished by Higgins, who knocked up 72 break.

Allen took the fourth after clearing the colours and looked set to take the fifth with a 73 break.

However, he missed a frame ball red with the rest and left it in the jaws before played a good safety shot. The defending champion eventually got the snooker he needed and duly cleared-up to knock the stuffing out of Allen.

Higgins quickly put Allen out of his misery as a break of 96 secured his passage into the last four.

Robertson recovered from losing the first frame to close friend Perry to secure his 5-1 win.
