London - A pregnant woman and her husband were said to be "incredibly lucky to be alive" yesterday after their helicopter plunged into the sea off the south coast.

The couple were flying to Denham in Buckinghamshire in a Jet Ranger helicopter when contact with air traffic controllers was suddenly lost. The pilot had not filed a flight plan and his last known position was two miles south of Lyme Bay, Dorset.

A search was launched by the air rescue co-ordination centre in Kinloss, Scotland, who contacted Portland coastguard. The couple were found in the water a mile south of Charmouth, Dorset, by a fishing vessel.
