New GP guide

Myths and misinformation about asylum seekers, cultural competence, and facts on practices such as religious male circumcision…

Myths and misinformation about asylum seekers, cultural competence, and facts on practices such as religious male circumcision are covered in a new guide for GPs in Galway, which was released at the conference.

The guide, developed by NUI Galway's Dr Hans-Olaf Pieper of the HSE West and the Galway Refugee Support Group, aims to address some of the challenges which arise in meeting the health needs of asylum seekers and refugees.

Subjects covered include advice on filling out medico-legal reports for asylum applications.

If it proves successful, NUIG says the guide may be adapted for use nationally.
