A review group has been established by the Minister for Justice, Mr O'Donoghue, to consider the amendments necessary to the Firearms Act, 1925 to 1990. The group was promised in the Dail before the summer recess when a temporary Act was rushed through to give hunting licences and firearms certificates to non-resident shooters for a year.

The temporary legislation was made necessary by a recent High Court decision that their licences were unlawful. Submissions from interested parties go to the secretary of the review group at the Department of Justice.
