THERE IS a real danger that the North could slip back to conflict if the current stand-off between Sinn Féin and the DUP is not ended, Green Party Assembly member Brian Wilson told his party’s autumn conference in Belfast at the weekend.

The North Down MLA said the inability of the DUP and Sinn Féin to move beyond partisan politics was threatening the economy and jeopardising the quality of life of citizens at a very challenging time.

“The current impasse in Assembly politics puts in sharp focus the inability of the old sectarian parties to work in co-operation for the betterment of Northern Ireland. The old parties are caught up in their old-style politics and it only serves to illustrate the importance of a political party like the Green Party,” he said.

Senator Dan Boyle, chairman of the Green Party in the Republic, told delegates that the Northern economy must look as much southwards as eastwards.

He called for the development of cross-Border enterprise zones between areas such as Dundalk and Newry, and Letterkenny and Derry.
