Athens - Mr Christos Rokofyllos, an experienced Greek diplomat, was named yesterday as the new alternate foreign minister to replace Mr Yiannos Kranidiotis who was killed in a plane accident last week.

Mr Rokofyllos (68) will be responsible for European affairs and will be sworn in later this week. In the 1980s, he served as Greece's ambassador in Paris, as junior foreign minister and as alternate industry minister.
