The Government has the name of a certain High Court judge in mind to chair the second tribunal into payments to politicians

The Government has the name of a certain High Court judge in mind to chair the second tribunal into payments to politicians. The judge will be approached within days to become the sole member of the tribunal of inquiry, which is expected to start up in two weeks.

A Government spokesman stated last night that the new inquiry will be entitled the Tribunal of Inquiry (Payments to Mr C.J. Haughey and Mr Michael Lowry TD).

The Cabinet has decided not to accept any amendments to the Bill on Cabinet confidentiality which will be taken by the new Seanad at its first sitting today.

An overall strategy for Budget negotiations was also settled by the Cabinet at its meeting yesterday.
