Hamburg - German police last night ended the hijacking of an Egypt Air jet which was forced to land at Hamburg, arresting the hijacker after he apparently jumped from the Boeing 737500, a police spokesman said.

All 48 passengers, mostly Egyptians, and six crew were unhurt. The jet was hijacked by a man with a knife just after it left Ankara for Cairo yesterday afternoon, Turkish officials said. The man forced it to divert to Hamburg, where it landed just after 7.30 p.m.

The identity and motive of the hijacker were unknown.
