Gascoigne poised to join D.C. United

Former England football star Paul Gascoigne has arrived in Washington for his first workout with D.C

Former England football star Paul Gascoigne has arrived in Washington for his first workout with D.C. United who are expected to sign the 35-year-old midfielder next week.

"When a serious talent like Paul Gascoigne becomes available, you have to give it serious consideration," said United coach Roy Hudson, who, like Gascoigne, is from Newcastle.

Gascoigne will watch United's home match on Saturday against New England and then join them for several workouts to judge his fitness.

If Gascoigne and United agree a deal after workouts through the middle of next week, he would probably make his Major League Soccer (MLS) debut in Washington on August 10th against Kansas City.
