Over 400 workers at Bord Gais have voted for industrial action after talks on restructuring broke down. SIPTU is seeking £8,000 per worker for new work practices and a 5 per cent shareholding in the company when it is privatised. The company has offered £2,000 but has made no offer on shares.
It is understood the Department of Finance is objecting to the workers receiving the shares, which would be worth at least £35,000 to each employee.
Yesterday SIPTU branch secretary Mr Tony Dunne refused to speculate on the nature of the industrial action that would be taken.
