Gardai to talk to men about Dundalk brothel

Dundalk gardaí will interview seven men who were allegedly customers of a brothel raided earlier this week

Dundalk gardaí will interview seven men who were allegedly customers of a brothel raided earlier this week. They have the men's details and a source said they would shortly arrange to meet them.

Gardaí raided an apartment on Tuesday and found two women in their 20s working as prostitutes. The raid is part of an operation targeting brothels and brothel-keepers in the region.

Gardaí said the Dundalk operation was "highly-organised and operated". Customers had to make contact through a call centre. This central number, publicised on the internet, was used to make specific arrangement to visit the premises and the women, who were from Britain, were told not to answer the door unless a customer was expected.

The apartment was part of a complex that had a security system at the main entrance to the building, as well as at each apartment door.

Customers were charged €250 for an hour or €150 for 30 minutes and paid cash. Seven men had entered the apartment before the raid during which cash was recovered. Gardaí also found condoms and baby oil.

The apartment is a short walk from Dundalk town centre and is close to another premises used as a brothel which was raided three weeks ago. Gardaí found foreign nationals working there.
