Gardai investigating the death of James Cronin and other recent incidents in the South-hill area of Limerick have discovered a significant quantity of drugs during a search of a field in O'Malley Park today.

Gardai found a quantity of drugs believed to be approximately 30,000 ecstacy tablets. The drugs are estimated to have a street value of approximately €300,000.

On Monday, the body of James Cronin (20) was found in a shallow grave on waste ground in Limerick city. A post-mortem confirmed he had died from a gunshot wound to the head.

Last Saturday, 40-year-old Mark Moloney was shot dead in the Garryowen area of Limerick. His funeral took place earlier today.

Today's search was performed by gardai from the Limerick Division supported by search teams from the southern region. Dog units were also deployed.

Searches in the area are continuing.
