Gardaí in Dublin have named the Asian man who was found dead in a city centre restaurant yesterday. He was 59-year-old Sukhdev Singh Gill, originally from India.

Gardaí are treating the death as suspicious but have not yet said whether they are launching a murder inquiry.

A second man, also Asian and middle-aged, is being treated at the Mater Hospital for throat wounds.

The remains of the dead man were brought to the city morgue last night as gardaí cordoned off the restaurant, Dave's Café, on Upper Dorset Street.

Local residents said the café was owned by the dead man along with eight flats in the same building.
