Gardaí investigating two fatal road crashes

Gardaí in Co Laois are investigating a road crash in which a man (55) died yesterday.

The man's car left the road at 4 p.m. yesterday at Moanvane in Portarlington. The driver suffered serious injuries in the crash and died later in Portlaoise Hospital.

He was name das Thomas Kinsella, from Kilbeg, Walshisland, Co Offaly.

Gardaí also said today that an 87-year-old man has died from injuries he sustained in a crash in Birr, Co Offaly, on Thursday February 23rd.

John Scully of Hillview, Fortal, in Birr, was injured when the car he was driving collided with another vehicle at Sharavogue, Birr.

Both drivers were taken to Tullamore Hospital. Mr Scully died last Monday.

The fatalities bring the number killed on the State's roads this year to 72.
