Tolka Valley Road and Cardiffsbridge Road were both sealed off with Garda tape.  Some motorists attempting to take the normally busy shortcut were met by a uniformed Garda who turned them back and redirected them.

A number of bus routes were also diverted.

A Garda Technical Bureau van arrived shortly after 10.15am and the State pathologist was expected on the scene this afternoon.

Some people living nearby who spoke to reporters indicated they were shocked at the discovery of the body close to their homes this morning.  But other people walking in the area indicated they were not very surprised to to learn of an apparently violent death, as such incidents were becoming commonplace in Finglas and elsewhere.

One woman walking her two dogs at the nearby Tolka Valley Park said she had only recently felt she would like to "get out" of the area completely.

"I would not be that suprised. But that just shows how much people have got immune to it."

Both roads have been closed to traffic and commuters are asked to use alternative routes.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Finglas Garda station on 01-6667500.  Gardaí are particularly keen to speak to taxi drivers or delivery drivers who may have driven through the area early this morning.
