Gardaí in Drogheda were last night investigating the circumstances around the death of a man whose body was found in a lift after there had been a power cut in a building.

However last night a Garda spokesperson said it was not yet clear if the deceased – a 70-

year-old man from Drogheda – had entered the lift before or after the power had been restored.

The lift is in one of a number of buildings that form part of Workspace Limited, which provides office and retail units near the quays in Drogheda.

The building in question is on Mayoralty Street and has a number of tenants including the Unite trade union, the ISPCC and the Drogheda Partnership.

A postmortem will be carried out today.
