Gardai will begin a major enforcement operation for driving offences, including drink-driving, from this weekend.
From Friday June 13th until next Wednesday, June 18th, gardai will target insurance compliance, road tax, NCT tests, lighting regulations, the use of seatbelts and child restraints, amongst other areas.
Gardai at checkpoints will also check that learner drivers are displaying ‘L’ plates and that tyres on vehicles stopped are serviceable.
“The emphasis of this Garda traffic operation is to promote and improve a compliance culture amongst the public, through the comprehensive enforcement of all facets of Road Traffic Legislation,” a Garda statement said.
