An off-duty garda was killed yesterday when his car was in collision with a lorry on the Waterford-New Ross road

An off-duty garda was killed yesterday when his car was in collision with a lorry on the Waterford-New Ross road. The accident happened at Shambo, near Glenmore, at about 2 p.m.

The 31-year-old garda, who was stationed at New Ross, was married with two children. He was from Dublin and had been in the force for nearly five years.

The driver of the lorry was taken to Wexford General Hospital but was later discharged.

Traffic on the road, part of the busy Rosslare-Cork Euroroute, was disrupted for a time while emergency services were at the scene.
