THERE is growing concern for the welfare of a Galway man who has been missing for more than eight days. Mr Carl Clancy (21), of Furbo, a plasterer, was last seen soon after he was escorted from a pub in Maam Cross, Connemara, following an incident during the bank holiday weekend.
Gardai in Oughterard, where an incident room was set up yesterday, said an extensive search of the area near Peacock's pub in Maam Cross had failed to uncover any information.
Insp Pat Forde said the search was extended to include the Garda sub-aqua team and a Sikorsky helicopter with thermal-imaging equipment. He said gardai were anxious to speak to anyone who may have been in the area after 1.30 am. on the bank holiday Monday.
Mr Clancy is 6 ft, of medium build, and was wearing a maroon shirt and blue jeans. He has short light brown hair and an English accent. The incident room phone number is 091-552094.
