The funeral takes place today of a 31-year-old welder from Rashee Park, Ballyclare, who wasshot at his step-brother's flat early on Saturday morning.

The UVF has been blamed for the murder of John Allen, after it was suggested that he was targeted because he was a friend of Mr Trevor Gowdy, a Ballyclare doorman attacked by the UVF with hatchets and a crowbar in north Belfast in December 2002.

The murdered man's father blamed the UVF for his killing, as have security and loyalist sources. He said his son was ordered out of Northern Ireland a month ago but that he refused to leave.

Two gunmen shot Mr Allen in the head and legs. He was rushed to hospital but died later from hisinjuries.

Mr Allen's funeral cortege will leave his father's house at Corgy Road, near Doagh, this morning for burial at Rashee Cemetery.
