Villagers spent the night dealing with fresh flooding in the east Galway village of Clonfert.

Flood waters rose rapidly overnight and a team of 15 volunteers worked through the night.

Speaking this morning on RTÉ this morning, IFA vice president for Connacht Micheal Silke said the houses in the village should be evacuated.

"The ordinary people that are out here all night ... are not going to be able to keep going for another 24 hours non-stop the way they've been going."

"Look, we desperately need help here, its as simple as that"

More flooding was reported in other parts of the county with Ardrahan and Peterswell reporting fresh flooding after overnight rain.

The weather is expected to provide a little respite to flooded areas this weekend but certain roads are to remain closed and public transport services will again be disrupted in some areas.

Met Éireann last night said there should be little rain between today and Monday.

A HSE information line telephone number 1800 283 036 has been established to assist people affected by the recent flooding in Co Galway and will be available from this morning, between 8am and 10pm.

Callers will be asked to provide their name, address, contact number, PPSN and details of the service they require. HSE staff will then provide information on the services available to assist them.

The HSE in Galway will be providing a separate counselling helpline from Monday next, November 30th and details of that number will be available from Monday morning.
