Paris - The French National Assembly has overwhelmingly adopted a bill aimed at ridding the country of pitbulls and other dangerous dogs following a wave of attacks by the aggressive breed.

The bill, adopted on Tuesday, is similar to legislation in other countries, including Britain. It allows mayors to order the killing of pitbulls trained to attack people and bans the purchase, breeding and import of such animals.
