Olympic champion Cathy Freeman said today she had rediscovered her competitive urge and was ready to resume training in November.

Freeman, who took a year off after her 400-metre victory at the Sydney Olympics last September, said: "The tingly feeling's definitely back".

The two-time world champion said she has set her sights on winning her event at next year's Manchester Commonwealth Games.

"There's a time and a place for everything and when I check in on the first day of November I'll be ready to get back into it, go hard and try and win in the Commonwealth Games next year," Freeman said.

She became the first athlete to win Commonwealth Games titles in both the 200 metres and 400 metres events in Victoria, Canada, in 1994 before missing the 1998 Kuala Lumpur Games through injury.

While on her sabbatical, she was forced to relinquish her 400 metres world title to Senegal's Amy Thiam Mbacke at last month's Edmonton world championships.
