A man who was convicted last February and remanded in custody was sentenced yesterday for a sexual assault on a young boy in September 1992.

Sentencing Tony Coffey (19), of Gallowsfields, Tralee, to four years imprisonment, Judge Kevin O'Higgins said it was an extremely serious case in which the victim was very young.

Taking into consideration that Coffey was young, the judge backdated the sentence to his period in custody.

Det Sergeant Patrick Sullivan said there were five previous convictions against Coffey, who yesterday pleaded guilty to entering the home of Ms Catherine Sergeant on October 21st, 1994, and stealing a video recorder and a jacket.
