Four more charged with shootings

Four more Derry men have been charged in connection with the shooting of two middle-aged Catholic brothers in the city last month.

Three were charged at Belfast Magistrates' Court with causing grievous bodily harm to Mr Anthony and Mr Francis Creane, who were shot in the legs in a so-called punishment attack. The three are Mr Edward Allen (29), of no fixed address; Mr Richard Harper (19), of Heron Way; and Mr David Pywell (23), of Bonds Place.

The fourth defendant, Mr James David Jones (24), of Kinsale Park, was charged with conspiring with others to cause the brothers serious injury. All four are charged with membership of the UDA.

Mr Allen, Mr Harper and Mr Pywell were further charged with possessing a gun and ammunition. Mr Harper was also charged with attempted murder linked to a loyalist feud shooting in June last year. Mr Pywell faced additional charges of carrying out a punishment beating and armed robbery.
