Four men who hijacked a car to take them home pleaded guilty yesterday to falsely imprisoning the driver and to threatening to damage his car.

John O'Brien (25) and John McCarthy (29), both from Arbutus Grove, Killarney, and Patrick O'Brien (21) and Michael Harrington (19), both from Ballyspillane, Killarney, admitted the hijacking, on December 29th, 1997.

The four held up Mr John Quirke - who is in his 20s - in Kanturk and threatened to damage his car if he did not drive them to Killarney, about 15 miles past his home at Rathmore.

Each man offered to pay £1,000 compensation to Mr Quirke and Judge A.G. Murphy adjourned sentencing until June 21st.
