Four people were killed and five injured, including three left fighting for their lives, when a car rammed into people waiting at a bus-stop in Budapest earlier today.
Four of those injured are Ukrainian nationals.
Police have opened an investigation into why the car, a taxi with no passengers, ran onto the pavement and hit a number of middle-aged men waiting for a bus.
"Data so far have shown that the driver was inattentive for a few seconds," police spokesman Gyoezoe Lovasz said adding that a breathalyser test signalled the driver might have consumed alcohol.
The driver, a 28-year-old man who suffered light head injuries in the accident, was arrested but denied having driven the vehicle.
Under Hungarian law, he could be sentenced to between five and 10 years in prison if he caused the accident when drunk.
