Four men have appeared in court charged in connection with a violent feud between Traveller families in Tralee, Co Kerry.
They were arrested yesterday following a serious outbreak of violence and brought before Killorglin District Court today.
Robert Coffey (30) of Woodview Park, Killeen, Tralee, was charged with having a slash hook with a sharply pointed blade at Kerry General Hospital yesterday. Batty Coffey (27) of Cahereen’s West, Castleisland was charged with having an iron bar also the hospital.
Both men were remanded on bail on personal bonds of €2,000. They were ordered to sign on at Castleisland Garda Station twice a week, remain outside the Tralee town boundary area and have no contact with ten named persons. They are also not to travel in any vehicle in the presence of five named individuals.
They were ordered to appear again before Tralee District Court on Wednesday.
Michael O’Brien (35), of St Martin’s Park, Tralee was charged with issuing threats, engaging in behaviour likely to provoke breach of the peace and with failing to comply with the direction of a garda at St Martin’s Park.
Tony Coffey (20) of Cahereens West, Castleisland was charged with having an iron bar in his possession at Kerry General Hospital.
Patrick Mann, solicitor for Mr O’Brien and Tony Coffey, applied for bail.
However gardaí objected to the application and Judge James O’Connor remanded both men in custody to Cork Prison to appear before Tralee District Court on Wednesday.
