US Army Major Nidal Malik Hasan was today charged with 13 counts of premeditated murder for a killing spree at the Fort Hood Army base in Texas on November 5th, the military said.
The 39-year-old former Army psychiatrist is accused of killing 13 people at Fort Hood, a base about 60 miles (97 kilometers) north of Austin that houses about 45,000 US troops.
The attack left 43 people at Fort Hood injured, 15 of whom remained hospitalised yesterday, according to
Army Private Jada Kent, a base spokeswoman.
President Barack Obama today said the White House would review intelligence related to Major Hasan and recommend improvements in information sharing.
A White House statement said Mr Obama appointed John Brennan, assistant to the president for homeland security and counterterrorism, to lead the effort and deliver preliminary results by November 30th.
