Former Tory MP Mr Neil Hamilton and his wife Christine were arrested today following an allegation of serious sexual assault, police sources said tonight.

The couple attended a London police station by appointment where they were arrested and questioned by officers.
They were released about two hours later but will be further questioned at a later date.
"We deny the allegations absolutely and categorically," said Mr Hamilton on the steps of Barkingside Police station in East London.

"It is an absolute monstrous fabricatiuon and a lie," said Mr Hamilton's wife, Christine, who was also questioned in relation to an incident alleged to have taken place on May 5th in a North London flat.
