A FORMER assistant parts manager with a Dublin motor group has been awarded €79,000 in compensation after an Employment Appeals Tribunal found he had been unfairly selected for redundancy.

The tribunal said David Redmond, of Parklands Way, Straffan Road, Maynooth, Co Dublin, was unfairly dismissed by Esmonde Motors of Haddington Road. The tribunal found that the company “did not engage at any time” with Mr Redmond.

The chief financial officer of the Esmonde group confirmed a trainee parts adviser was hired. However, due to substantial losses, all other staff were made redundant last April.

The motor dealership ceased trading in May.

Mr Redmond said the duties outlined for the trainee parts adviser had been part of his job.
