The former women's jail in Armagh, which closed in the early 1980s, is to open soon as a tourist attraction. The 200year-old building was bought by the City Council for about £750,000 in July.

Parts of it, comprising the main entrance foyer, connecting link and two cell blocks, are to be open to the public. But before this can happen, the council is to spend more than £8,000 on roof repairs, replacing broken windows and a general clean-up, including painting.
