Former dictator is laid to rest

Sofia - Thousands of Bulgarians yesterday said goodbye to Todor Zhivkov, communist ruler of the Balkan state from 1954 to 1989. Zhivkov, who passed away at 86 last week, was the last East European dictator to die. The mourners marched through the city to the central Sofia cemetery where Zhivkov was later buried in a family ceremony alongside his wife.
