The new national fishing vessel building programme was launched last night with the signing of a contract in Dingle, Co Kerry, for a 24-metre steel-hulled boat. The Minister for the Marine, Dr Woods, congratulated local skipper Mr Tom Kennedy who ordered the vessel, the first of 31 to be part-funded by finance from the £60 million Whitefish Renewal Programme.
